Cranks but wont start
A test light will work fine for testing the wires. start with the key off, probe the wire, then slowly turn key through the motions. ACCY, IGN, then START. ACCY should only have power in the on position, IGN will have power throughough the intire key cycle, and START obviously will only have power in the start position.
As far as the security system goes, I have never seen a factory security system installed like that. I would be more apt to thinking it is an aftermarket system. Are you sure that isn't what's causing your greif? Do you have a manual that came with it to see how to disarm it?

The security system could be an aftermarket. I'm not sure. I bought the truck brand new at Stone Mountain Chevrolet and it was installed with it. The truck didn't come with any type of manual on it either. Some people has told me that it could be the problem. I've had one person tell me weird this happen when security systems start to go bad.
Far as the testing the wires. i'm going to have to do that this weekend. it's rain like hell here. (Lawrenceville, GA)

ok i think i'm on to something.... i used my test light and connected the Red/White wire (B+) to the white wire (IGN) the light came on. I tried starting the truck and the cluster lights came on and the truck started right up. now while this was going on the test light turned off. not sure if that right? also as soon as i unhooked the test light the truck died.
so i really would like to know if this telling me that my switch is bad. (not the switch with the key)
one more thing. has anyone ever seen this in your truck.

this is the box that is connected through my fuse box.

I have neevr seen that before, couldn't even give you a hint as to what it is.
As for your truck not starting it is definately the Ignition switch. There is a bad contact in the switch for the Ignition portion of the switch. When you probed both wires with the test light, you bypassed the switch and made a manual connection to the ignition circuit.

it would have taken me 2 - 3 hr. to do it if i had the right tools and it wasn't 32 - 36 degrees in the morining. i had other thing going on during the day. so it took me about 3 days. i was pretty much taking my time with it.
i thought i was going to have to remove the steering wheel but i didn't have to. thank god. (my truck is a 1997 Chevey S10, i have heard that you do on some models so watch out)
if anyone has to do this make sure you have or go grab some star sockets (female) T6 and a T5.
and also some star skew drivers.
good luck and have a good one.
if anyone has any other questions please feel free to ask.
i'll do my best to answer.
