Default Dead fuel gauge and engine lite on

Both issues seem to be related. Replaced the fuel sending unit as that is a problem area in all the info I have read. But that's not it yet. No signal (power) from the purple wire or ground at the W-black ground wire at the sender plug. Again not it yet. Removed the gauge cluster to check the fuel gauge itself is not buggered. That ain't it, as it has continuity, but the instrument circuit board has a fuel gauge pathway going to electronics on a smaller board. Wiring diags (crappy) show the purple sender wire goes to the engine controller with no indication of what color goes to the gauge. Now I'm lost.

Anyone have a clue? I suspect broken damaged wires from the fuel tank but to where??

Or can I bypass the fuel gauge wiring and run directly from the gauge to the sender without frying the circuit board?

Any help appreciated

Pete
