Default Fuel Pump Replacement

Im in the middle of replacing the fuel pump on a friends 2000 sonoma. You dont replace the pump, you have to replace the ENTIRE assembly. Anyway, its not held on like the fuel pump in my camaro or silverado. Its held in place by a very large snap ring. The problem is this: I cant get the pump to go down far enough for clearance for the snap ring to bolt in. I need like an extra half inch.

ive doubled checked the part and its the right one.

Default RE: Fuel Pump Replacement

put the pumps side by side, and press down on them to see if the springs depress the same amount
