Default heating core replacement

Hello all.I joined this forum to try to find help with my 1998 S10.I'm in the process of replacing a leaking heating core.I have a Haynes manual that shows me a different picture of the heating core case than the one that's in my truck. The one in the book comes apart in 2 pieces. The one in my truck is very different.I figured that it might be a later model heating core because on the following page it says for all 1999 and later models I have to go through the fan resistor hole (under hood) and reach down with an extended ratchet to unscrew the core case from the firewall.Even though mine is a 98 I tried to access it anyway, but I can't see any bolts through that small hole. Anyone have any experience with this same issue? I need help.

Thanks Mike M

Too many steps to list but yes the dash, steering column have to come out. A haynes or chiltons manual for about 22-25 bucks would be a good investment if you needed to do anything else to the vehicle.
