I'm putting in a new ac delco fuel pump in my 96 s10 4.3l. After spending a couple of hours figuring out how to jack the bed up with my limited equipment and no available friends the day i had time to do it i finally got the fuel pump out.

I can't get the new pump in for the life of me. I think the new o ring is to big. If i put all my weight on it, it won't seat all the way down. I used a little oil on the ring but no no dice. I ended up leaving it to tackle today. Any tricks or tips to this problem or do i just need to use the old ring?

 

Compare the new and the old fuel pumps to make sure they are exactly the same. When I did mine the locking ring compressed the O ring down to make a good seal.

 

How much work did it take you to compress the new ring? I'm practically standing on the top of the pump and it won't seat enough. The pumps are the same size.

 

If you don't have the correct tool to spin the locking ring on just use the old rubber gasket if it's not damaged.

It will be just fine.

 

Ya, I went ahead and used the old one. The new o ring was a little bigger. It's seems to be working so far. Now back to work for a week and then a week for the next projects. Intake gasket and heater core.

 

I used the new oring and it didn't take that much to compress it. I also used a AC Delco pump. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't!

 

you might want to try a water based lubricant on the o-ring / seal to get it on,
it needs to fit snug and seal properly...
