Default Hood Latch Problem...HELP!

Hello,

I have recently enherited a 1998 Blazer. Upon receiving the car, I attempted to open the hood, only to discover that there seems to be a problem with the hood latch...it won't open. When I pull the latch under the steering wheel, nothing happens.

Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem? And what I need to do to fix it, or if there is an alternate method of opening the hood... I really need to check the oil before I can keep driving it, and also replace the battery soon, but i cannot open the hood.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The cable is broken, or the spring in the latch may be missing, borken, or misaligned.
Give it a whack front and center of the hood and see if it releases. If it does, its the spring.

If your cable is fubar'd, you're going to have to get it open either form underneath the vehicle, or remove the grill to try and pry the latch where the cable would normally go in

Unfortunately, the grille will not come off without the hood open. If thats the case...

From memory, I'm almost 90% sure that you will not be able to reach the latch under the car either.

Its not a hopeless situation, because you may can pop the latch with a long slender instrument of some kind.
