Default Multiple issues with my 20001 s-10

Ok guys, maybe someone on here can tell me what is going on. First off, I had a fuel pump put on and every since that was done the truck starts to "surge" when it gets to around a half tank. I feels as if it is going to run out of gas, but it will surge for a few minutes and then smooth out a little and then start to do it again. Any idea what is causing this? Next, it is really running rough and has a rough idle. It kinda hesitates and sputters in 3rd and 4th. It is as if it is not getting enough gas. It is really bad when I first start it up when it is cold. It is almost to the point that it will not idle. It will eventually get to the point where it will smooth out a little bit, but still a very noticeable miss and sputter. The other day I was driving it and all of a sudden I heard a little bit of a "pop" and then it shut completely off. I pulled over to the side of the road and started it back up. When it started back up, it ran as good as it has since i had it. The idle was not near as rough and not as much sputtering and hesitation. Since then, it has slowly started to regress back to the way it was before I heard the "pop". I was told today that it might be my egr valve is stuck open and needs to be taken off and cleaned. He said it probably closed when i heard the pop and is starting to stick again. Another guy told me it might be that my injectors may be shorting out. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, o2 sensor (the one near the back), changed plugs and wires. I had the coil pack tested and it was fine. Any ideas as to what it is? It is a 2.2 L with about 211,000 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
