Greetings & Salutations To All:
The only part of an ‘85 S10 2-whl drive Blazer that I have is the rolling chassis/frame. I got it over 20 years ago and I put it under a 1937 ****** 4-door sedan. I outfitted it with a ‘95 Corvette LT1 engine & tranny. In trying to complete the mechanical portion of this project, I have many question (and little knowledge) about my rear axle. I removed the diff cover and read the stamped 12 - 41 on the ring gear, so I know I have 3.42 gears. The axles have 26 splines. The ring gear did not have the ring gear diameter stamped onto it, so my first question is it a 7.5, or 7.625, or 8.2 (I’m pretty sure it’s not an 8.5). The housing flange has 3 bolts to attach the brake backing plate. On the front edge of the passenger side of the axle tube is stamped GAJK0923. If I wanted to swap this rear axle for a stronger, more durable axle, what would I shop for in my local “auto recycling center”? Did the S10 Blazer always come with the 3-bolt flange configuration? What year did the S10 Blazers start with rear disc brakes? Did later, stronger S10 rear axles have different overall lengths?
I would greatly appreciate any help, advice or suggestions anyone could offer.
Thanks,
Tim
