My son has a 2001 S-10 that he blew up the rear end on. We have replaced the rear end, as well as the power steering pump that went prior to the rear end blowing up. That is all back together now, and the truck will go into drive, but free revs like it is neutral. It has reverse, manual 1 and manual 2, but 3 and drive there is nothing. The transmission was fine prior to the rear end issue. I am very mechanically inclined, but don't have much experience with transmission, other than the 700r4. Please help, I am looking for possible suggestion of fixes before I just r&r the trans. Thanks in advance.

 

Your son's S-10 transmission is a GM 4L60e and is 20 years old now. Might be best to replace it. Likely a clutch pack gone south.

I'd just replace it if I were you. About $1100 USD for a top-of-the-line rebuilt unit, but quite cheap if you do it yourself, IMO.
