Default Oil pressure gauge acting erratically

Hi,

Recently the oil pressure gauge on my 2003 Blazer has been going in and out randomly. Each time the gauge goes to 0 the "check gauges" light comes on.

I'm not really a car guy but it seems to me like a sensor is on its death bed. Do you guys know any other causes of this behavior?

thanks!

Edit: If it helps, i have not noticed any kind of decreased performance, gas mileage, or anything like that while driving my blazer. Just the gauge going in and out without any patterns.

Try checking if you have engine oil. You might actually be low on oil.

Check your oil level like mr Jason said and look at replacing your oil pressure switch

From 2003 to 2006 GM was having problems with the stepper motor that operates the gauges. There was a recall on these. Check with the dealer if your truck was one of the recalls. They may still be able to repair it for free. Usually all 6 of the gauges will fail. If this is your problem, it is about $600.00 for the dealer to fix it if it is not on the recall list. You can also fix it your self if you can solder for about $25.00 by buying the stepper motors and replacing them yourself.
