Default RF 1/2 shaft install help!!!

boots leaking so I P/U a new 1/2 shaft, disassemble & tap shaft from tube(C-clip). Proceed to install new shaft/ goes in 1/4-1/2" how to tap in? someone said there is a washer that falls down-out of place and the tube assy has to be removed to install the outer 1/2 shaft? Always?

Did you get a new ring clip or are you using the old one. I had trouble inserting a shaft once because the ring had expanded too much and would not compress when you tried to push it in.

No I have not gotten a new clip. Evidently as I understand it, once you attempt to slide out the 1/2 shaft the ext.shaft in tube will tend to come with it.Exactly how far out, I'm not sure? when this happens there is a large washer inside that rides on the inboard end of ext. shaft-like a thrust washer. Once the shaft slides outwards, this washer "may/does?" simply fall down therefore requiring the removal of ext.tube which houses the shift fork, etc mechanism. The thing's a bitchh esp.working underneath on a cement floor.

My mistake, I was thinking of the driver's side. You need to drop the axle tube on that side to do it.

This is a good diagram.

Thanks, nice diagram!
As it turns out....nothing became out of place and I simply tapped the 1/2 shaft back in! All is well again. I freaked out for no reason...
