i have a 1996 s-10 2.2l with 150k on it.the service engine soon light on my truck doesn't stop flashing. and it is not running on all four cylinders i know for a fact because it does not have the power like it used to have. im thinking mabe a coil pack but im not sure. if you have any ideas please let me know thanks.

On Board Diagnostics

Your truck should be equipped with a OBD2 diagnostic port, but there is a chance it still has OBD1 port.

In the case of OBD1 count the number of time the CEL (Check Engine Light) flashes, then from the time you insert your key and go to the ON position, and the you see the light have longer then a 1 sec pause. Now take that count and compare to the GMTUNER link at the top, and this should narrow down your issue.

As for OBD2, head to AutoZone or your favor car parts store and see if you can borrow a scanner, this will tell you the code error for an OBD2 and then compare to the link for OBD2. Again this will narrow down your error.

Off the top of my head, I would say you have one of the following bad.

1. Spark Plug
2. Spark Plug Wire
3. Rotor
4. Distributor Cap
5. Egnition Coil
6. ECM (Engine Control Module)

these are listed in best to worst senarios.

You stated loss of power and flashing CEL, all the above can cause this issue as well as others, at this time the 6 listed are more likely then others from the descriptions you have provided.

 

ok thanks alot im thinking it might be the coil packs but im not sure. im going to go up to autozone and plug the scan tool in and see what it says. im just not 100% sure what it is
