Smile Steering / Wandering

Hello,

Got a little steering problem and some of the ASC Certified Mechanics I've taken my blazer to can't seem to locate the trouble. Had a little slack in the steering,,,,thought it may be steering gear play but they could not adjust it out.

They replaced the steering gear and it was real stiff/tight,,,,they replace that with another new one and it seem to make it easier to steer but I still had the slack and the problem with it wanting to wander at highway speeds,,,have to fight the steering wheel to keep it in the road,,,not a lot of slack,,,just enough to irritate you.

They checked all of the front end components,,,,tie rod ends, ball joints,,center link,,,pitman arm,,,,all those things are in good shape,,,still have the problem.

They said it could be the steering shaft coupler but they could not promise that would correct the problem,,(that was going to be another $500. by the time I paid for the part and labor.

Has anyone else had a problem like this,,,,it's a 97 S-10 Blazer ,,4 wheel drive,,,4.3 V6,,,

Thanks,
T.J.

try getting underneath the truck and having a person turn the wheel side to side with the truck off and see if there is anything that gives play

Default wandering jimmy

Hi, I have the same problem. I read that if you have lifted your jimmy and you have wandering problems, you will need to adjust the casters (?) not sure what this means but will be taking it to mechanic to see if this is the problem. good luck and if you are successfull. let me know what it was.

Have you had a 4 wheel alignment done? This sounds very similar to a problem I had after getting new tires and the front tires were toe'd out more than stock spec, causing it to easily catch grooves on the freeway and navigate that way.

I didn't see the Idler Arm in your list. May be the problem if it hasn't already been replaced.
