Arrow Thinking about getting a Blazer

Hi I'm new to the forums, my names Dustin. I'm thinking about getting a Blazer, preferably a 98 4 Door and was wondering if I could get some feedback or advice.

This is what I'm currently driving:

It's a 97 Chevy S10 LS and it's my baby but I'm getting older and looking for something a little more practical. Something I can still customize and make unique yet be able to bring home groceries in, especially in the rain, as well as carry friends/family around in comfortably. Something that's affordable, trusty and dependable. Getting good gas mileage is a huge plus also.

Is a 98 Blazer 4 door something that meets these qualifications? I love the overall look of the Blazer and the Blazer was my first vehicle. Will this year meet all these needs or would a newer year be better? I'm not looking to spend a lot, maybe around 3,800 though I'd prefer to spend less to get the car. Can anyone make any suggestions on which year I should get if not the 98?

I'm a Chevy man, let's keep it that way.

Thanks for your time.

Edit: If I do get a Blazer I'm gonna keep the truck as a workhorse for hauling trash and wood etc.

Welcome to the forum Dustin.
The Blazer will fulfill everything for you except good gas mileage. A newer model would be better for you. Less problems that occur with age.
You won't find one much newer than 98 for $3800. Might want to budget out $6000 for a good one.

Any year between 2000 and 2005.
02 and up can have a few more gadgets including the new radio.

Hmmm I dunno why but I'm really liking the 2004 4 Door Blazer.

What's the 2004 like? Pros? Cons? What should I be expecting to pay for one? What's the difference between a regular and an LS etc?

There were several cosmetic improvements after 2002. It included a new rim package, standalone emblems, and color matched molding.
The LS and LT models are just trim levels. Theres no difference as far as the drivetrain goes. A base model is a fleet vehicle. They often had manual windows, seats, molding, etc.

I drive a 2004 2 door blazer and love it for its uses. my buddies like the back seat because even with my seat being all the way back (i'm 6'4") they still have pretty good space (they are about 5'10"). i drive about 300 miles up to traverse city from detroit and can average about 19-21 mpg depending on traffic and how heavy of a foot i have that day. you can mod them fairly easily too. i have new door, dash and rear speakers, a new radio and a few other things here and there. the truck is fairly inexpensive to fix compared to my mom's envoy and if you want to upgrade things like lights, body, or interior, its not going to cost thousands of dollars.

if i had a choice though, i would definitely go back and buy a 4 door for the easy in and out of the back seat. plus you have a full tailgate, in the 2 door you have to pop the glass to fold the tailgate down which is a hastle when the pop mechanism breaks like it did on mine due to me being pissed off one day and slamming it really hard.

note to self, don't take anger out on the blazer, take it out on an old subwoofer box.

i hope my 2 cents helps a little
