Default Thinking of getting a suburban

Looking for a vehicle that will primarily be used for getting my kid and his friends to the slopes in the winter. I currently have a Subaru legacy wagon that I will be selling for two grand, to my aunt.

This car will also be my wife's go to vehicle for the few days per year that she will truly need an all wheel drive vehicle to get through bad storms for work.

Was thinking of a grand Cherokee, but they only seat four with shoulder belts.

Looking at a '95-'99 suburban for $2k-$3k. There seem to be plenty of. High mile examples.

Aside from the usual (oil, coolant, diff fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid) what would you all suggest?

How can I test for proper driveline function in warm weather?

TIA for your help.

No opinion. Hard to recommend a 12/16 year old vehicle with high miles.

My Tahoe -96 is the best car i ever owned. Only fault i had for the 10years i owned it is the in tank fuelpump so if you find a good held Suburban i say go for it. I get me a -02 Suburban to get the 3 rows of seats and so far im satisfied whit it exept for a failing instrument cluster but i will try to find a replace cluster when i get time for it.

Edit: When i think a while i had 2 faults on it in 10 years.
1: the fuel pump
2: Coolant leak from a nipple on the intakemanifold. Easy to fix so i forgot it

I like my suburban at 165K, but I bought it new, and know it's maintenance record. So as previous posted kinda hard to recommend a high mileage used vehicle either newer or old. My 2000 is the second best vehilcle I have owned (new) first was my 92 Saturn.

I would say this, if you know that maintenance was properly done on the vehicle and in a timely manner, go for it. If you can't verify or confirm this is the case, you are rolling the dice. I got pretty lucky with my 05 burb, haven't had any significant problems with it. bought it used in 07 and haven't looked back. Once she is paid off, then the fun begins but for now, have a CAI and am running synthetics where I can
