Default Tracking down trouble evap system (99 S-10)

Hi, new poster...and I need help.To test the purge solenoid on the evap system(99 s-10) is it 12v to it, and if so, if I disconnected it and hooked 12v to it from another batt would there be an audible click? I'm trying to knock of the "check engine soon" light (code P0440) by process of elimination. Also, what is it about the gas cap that makes it fail?
Thanx guys for any and all help

You'd have to remove it, and ground it to the battery you are planning to use else it won't work, as the end device has to be on the same battery potential. In other words you cannot use the battery ground or battery + from two different sources.

What I can see in my Haynes manual for my suburban (2000) is it is 10 amp fused, and hot with key on, so yes 12 volts.
