Default Won't shift into reverse

Hey guys,

I just got my S10 home from the shop yesterday (01/21/21)
I had a new clutch (complete), master and slave cylinders and flywheel installed.
My S10 is a 1989 baja.6 cyl 2.8L 4x4 5 speed
She sat for 4 years (long story). Popped a freeze plug behind flywheel in 2018, leaking rusty water on clutch.
All my fault. No need to admonish me. I'm 62 and know better.
She wasn't my daily driver. But still.
I was told by my mechanic, who let me supply my own parts, (due to pandemic affecting business) that everything worked well but, she won't go into reverse while running. I have to put in reverse before I start the truck.
The clutch kit I bought from RockAuto in 2019, off brand so, he had no data on it to addtess the reverse issue plus he did this job for a lot less than what he'd normally charge. I didn't want him to mess with it much longer as business was picking up at his shop.
It's not a big deal but, any advice on how to resolve this, short of tearing it all apart again, would be great.
One last question is where to find a vacuum line diagram for this engine.I looked online, Auto Zone repair help, YouTube...no luck
I ordered a Chilton manual. My Haynes doesn't address this. Photos of the engine don't show enough detail
Thanks
