Yes the flywheel had broken teeth and worn ones. The truck has 350 k on it. So she needed a new one. Lol. This engine has been maintained and I have never drove her hard. Always take care of my trucks. So this has thrown me for a loop. My other trucks all 97-2000 don’t have this issue.

 

So you have been through 3 starters in 350k miles and 22 years - that doesn't sound all that unusual to me - or are they going bad now in a few months? I have a 93 Sub 350k on it and have changed a starter 2-3 times since purchase in '95. I always opt for a lifetime part, drives the parts guys crazy that I don't get rid of my old rides!
