No, the sattelite 'ariel' (we call them antennas or transducers) is for reception of XM or Sirius sattellite radio and is noprogrammed to work with the navigation transponders.

Another question is why you need anextra transducerfor the Garmin? Doesn't the unit have a built-in sattellite transducer?

The shark-fin roof antenna (aka: Cellular, Navigation / Digital Radio Antenna) on your LTZ will have the Onstar Cellular (mobile telephone digital antenna element) which transmits and receives in the 834 - 894 MHz frequency range; it may also include the XM Radio band element which operates in the 2332.5 - 2345 MHz range.

GPS satellites run in the 1176 - 1576 MHz range which is a range that your roof antenna is tuned to receive for Onstar GPS satellite reception.

Since XM, Cell and GPS antennas all have the same 50ohm impedance you should be able to tap into the proper terminals and share the GPS signal with your Garmin device.

Thankyou for your replies, looks like I need to do a bit more work on understanding the frequencies.

EuroGoldLS, yes the Garmin has an inbuilt transducer but is reliant onuninterupted line of sight, not so good inside the vehicle where there is limited clear access, have a few friends who have added external antenna but wondered if the fin was capable of delivering the same result. At presentOnStar is not available in Australia.
