Hey guys, Im tired of working on my dodge Ram. Looking into a 2004 Chevy 2500HD regular cab long bed work truck to tow my boat, No options plane jane. It has the 8.1L in it, 4wd, automatic. Do these come with allison transmissions? Or do they come in just the duramax? It has 109,000 miles on it and theyre asking a little under 10 grand. What are some common problems with these I should look out for? What kind of gas mileage do you get? Not that gas mileage really matters. Any of you guys have a truck similiar to this one that has no lift but bigger tires? post pics please?

should have the 5 spd allison.

my buddy has an 03 ext cab shortbed 4x4 with the 8.1/alli combo and he gets around 9-11 in city and around 14 on the highway, unloaded. i dont think he has checked the loaded mpg.

i know one common issue is they seem to burn oil. my buddy's uses some but i cant remember how much he said.

a tune from blackbear performance may yeild .5 to 1mpg more but it will make the overall drivablity beter.

the 8.1 is a good strong motor. but if mpg are an issue i would suggest a dmax.

i dont think i have any pictures of his truck but just google chevy 3/4 tons, the 8.1 truck itself doesnt look any different than on with the 6.0
