Wondering if those with the "new" 6.2 litre in the 1500s that's part of the vortex max towing package (2009 and up) like their trucks. Looking response for both unloaded and towing.... the biggest I'd be pulling is a 20ft v-nose box trailer with 4 sleds in it.... maybe 6500 pounds total. I'm sure the truck can pull the weight... but how will it do with cross winds, head winds, etc ???
Please, only those who actually have or have had the 6.2 litre motor. Even if it's not with the tow package.

I don't know of any regulars on here that has a 6.2l Max. Still a pretty new vehicle. Prolly won't help, but my truck pulls like a beast. The winds can suck though. But that's in any vehicle.
i have the new body style.

Thanks for the reply. Not looking to compare towing with anything else as I currently have a 2010 2500 CC SB LTZ with a Duramax. Just curious how this new tow package in the 1500 is as it's peaked my interest. I don't tow much heavy often anymore and don't put the high miles on either....so maybe it's time to down-size......

I have a NBS 2007 6.0 MAX trailer & tow a 29' TT & a 28" car trailer & as long as you have sway control on them you won't have a problem in cross winds. Gas milage does suffer but with a Nelson power programer & cold air intake I'm about where they are in HP ,but don't know about torque, also mine has the 4 speed the 6.2 will have the 6 speed.

I just bought the 6.2l max trailering package crew cab 4wd. Man I love the truck. It also comes with hd rear end,3.73 ratio with a 9.5" ring gear same as the 2500hd. It gives you the pulling power of the 6.0 2500hd but rides and handles so much better than the 2500. If you are only pulling 7,000lb you will have no problems as it will pull 10k with ease

The 6.2 is real strong and very responsive. You could try pulling with out the equalizer bars but they would help stablize the whole rig. I may want to pull a big 5th wheel so if you are interested in trading your Duramax let me know. Give me a call 770-487-1727 if you want to talk

I have the 6.2/3.73 with the MTP. I pull a bass boat that goes about 3k but have pulled heavier trailers as well. As for the boat, it hardly feels it and rolls down the road very well. Additionally, with the lower profile the boat doesn't pull much on the truck. However, compared to my old vehicle, 4-Runner, the truck stays dead center unless the winds get above 40mph (and that happens often here in Nebraska). When pulling heavier trailers, about 7.5k pds, I felt the trailers but still wasn't what I would call stressing the truck. However, the braking is a different story. If I was going to upgrade anything to pull heavier pkgs, the first thing I would do is upgrade the brakes...regardless of the electronic brake adjustment.

We have a 2011 6.2L max tow and love it. The towing ability is awesome, especially out here in the Pacific NW mountains. We tow a car hauler with our classic Plymouth, which scales around 7K, or run around with our 1200# Rzr setting in the bed and there is NO problems. I don't know where the brakes are weak statement comes from, as ours stops very well. You just have to remember, they are all disc with anti locking, INCLUDING the built in trailer brake system. The mileage is better than the 2005 Sierra 5.3 Z-71 we had been towing with and the power difference is not even comparable.

My Father-in-law traded in his D-Max for a 2011 6.2 and says he doesn't miss the diesel at all. He pulls his hot rods in a v-nose trailer to car shows and his towing milage was better in the D-Max, but he says the 1500 rides like a Caddy. He does recommend using a WDH and sway control. As I don't have his level of funding, I went with the 5.3 on my new truck, but I'm still rated to pull 9600 lbs, not that I have anything near that heavy to pull. I love my new truck!
