Default 76 k10 Grinding noise??

Hey guys thought I would join this forum since I have been creeping around here for a while. I picked up a 76 chevy k10 full time 4 wheel drive. I have a big problem. I put the truck in gear I get a nasty grinding noise coming from the bottom side. I put my hand on the transfer case selector and I can feel it just vibrating. Put the transfer case in neutral and it goes away. Reverse it makes the noise but only when moving. In drive It makes it driving or sitting there with the brakes on. This is a nasty noise. I won't drive it while it makes this. Could the transfer case be the culprit?

Default grinding

go over the manual if you have it for the correct way to shift in and out of gear with full time for wheel drive but it sound's nlike you might haveb a transfer case issue ,ther might be some site's that have a trouble shooting list on them .

The chain is slipping in the transfer case. You need a new chain.

thanks for the replys guys! really appreciate it! Im going to be looking into the fluid levels and see the plug holes on the tcase and see what it looks like. If it is the case for sure I have a parts 76 5 hours away I will grab that tcase and hubs and make it into a part timer.

I have a question I can't seem to find a answer to. Could I swap to a full time Transfer case and keep the fulltime setup on the front axle or do I have to find a set of lockout hubs for the front axle to go with the T case?
