Default Grinding noise

Hi my 1994 1500. Z71 with a 350 makes a horrible grinding noise in the mornings. Only when it's cold. After I warms up it runs an sounds great. I think it the trNsmission, but remember it only does it when it's cold, any ideas?? Please and thank you

Motor mounts. Doesn't hurt anything but your sensibilities. New rubber does wonders.

Motor mounts would cause the motor or tranny grind when it's cold?? I have a feeling it's coming from the tranny.

It's 'grounding out'.

Just as if the mounts were made of solid metal. When I say mounts, I mean all three; two at the motor and the one at the transfer case/transmission.

My '98 does it also. I'm too cheap to stop and fix it.

I'm sorry I'm not following? Why would I get a grinding when it's cold. It sounds like something is staying engaged. It's not my starter. It almost sounds like it's coming from the flywheel/ transmission area

If your really thinking it's in that area, pull the starter, clean and lube the armature shaft with ATF. If the drive is gummed up and can't retract, it would indeed set up a grind.
