just bought a new compressor but how do i recharge my system?
I took out the old compressor and put on the new one. Is there anything I need to do before adding freon?

how do I evacuate the air and moisture? and yes the old compressor seized. Where is the oriface tube located? Its a 93 silverado with 350. I bought the retrofit kit also to convert to r134a. Is this all I will need?

The system will need to be evacuated with a special pump that is used to remove the air and moisture and preferably the old refrigerant to be recovered, from the AC system and creates a vacuum with in the system to be occupied later by the new refrigerant.
However there are some other issues to consider, if the old compressor shelled out it could have put metal particulates in the system and those will need to be flushed out first or your new compressor will not last long, and this could also include replacing the accumulator as it is not serviceable that I am aware of.
typically working on the AC system in a vehicle is not a DYI or shade tree job without the proper tools and equipment. (read expensive)
I would check with a local AC repair shop and see if they can assist you in your repair...

Give the instructables link a read and it will explain why..
if you are going to use any part of the old system it really needs to be flushed due to the old lubricants and any debris that may have entered the system...
not doing so could result in the destruction of your new compressor quick....

Then you will probably be buying yourself yet another new AC Compressor before you'll get the chance to feel that satisfactory ice cold breeze.
I need to do the same to my truck, after I get a new Compressor that is.
