Default Mounting engine

I have a 97 Chevy silverado that I took the motor out of. I am putting the motor back in, and couldn't figure out how to install the motor mount bracket to the block. I put just the bracket onto the block but can't figure out how to install the bracket with rods going to the transmission. How vital are those rods? If I just install the brackets to the block and the motor mount, then connect the bell housing to the block will that be ok or do I need the rods going to the transmission?
