Default MSD Coil sluggish from mid to top, 305ci

I just put on a MSD coil that my buddy got for his 95 GMC k1500 with the 350 but it was totaled so he gave it to me. i have a 95 GMC c1500 with the 305 and it ran pretty good but needed a few things. I put the coil on my truck and it has noticeably better throttle response but mid to top end power is worse than before. could the 350 coil have caused this? i also noticed when i did a burnout (i always do to test torque when i put parts on) and it started out in 2nd and then it finally shifted into 1st after a few seconds of WOT. is there a learning curve for the computer to compensate for the coil? i'm pretty much stumped because i was hoping for a little better performance.
