Default Need help with ID'ing my motor

I was looking on a web site for parts for my 1996 Chevy Silverado P/U it is a 3/4 ton. They listed 2 350 c.i.(5.7 L) motors, one is listed "5.7L 350cid V8 CNG FI (R)" the other is "5.7L 350cid V8 MFI (R) what is the difference?? What does the CNG FI stand for? I think the MFI is mod. fuel injection.

Thanks,

Jackmo

the CNG means Compressed Natural Gas,.. meaning the truck runs on the same thing your furnace would use.. most likely its not a CNG vehicle or you would surely know it
MFI is Multiport Fuel Injection.

Thanks for the info.

The motor is not fuel injected it has a "throttle body", no injectors.

I have to replace the gas tank & pump assy. I don't think this would make any difference if it is not MFI.

Thanks again,
Jackmo

It is fuel injected because may 1989 3/4 ton 454 engine had TBI and so did my 1989 Suburban 350 engine had TBI . You may have a TBI (Throttle Body Injection) the injectors are located on top throttle body you can see them when you open you air filter cover there are two one to each intake port of the throttle body.

JKR1040,

Yes you are correct! I was thinking of current FI with the injectors & fuel rail.

Thanks,

Jackmo
