2001 Chevy silverado 1500, 5.3 engine. changing plugs and wires for the first time on the truck. I bought the AC iridium plugs, truck specs say plug gap is .060 while the plug specs on advance auto site where I bought the plugs say .040 for this plug. other plugs on the site say .060. Which should be used ??

thanks, I did some more checking on this. I called acdelco number on the back of the package. What they told me was the truck came with platinum plugs,to be gapped at .060.
The iridium plugs are an upgrade and should be gapped at .040 which they are set, but I always check them anyways.

How did you remove the spark plug boot on cyclinder 8 (passenger side next to the firewall)? Is there a special tool or technique? I cant get a hold to pull out the plug.

What you need to do is grip the boot with a pliers and use a screwdriver handle as a fulcrum against the engine. It should not take a lot of force.

tools? i used fingers and it was just fine....
friendly advice. before you re-install boots, lubricate plugs' electrodes with dielectric grease. you'll thank me later. also, do same on ignition coils. matter of fact, 1st thing i do when i buy used car is to spend some time unplugging whatever i can unplug and lubricating with that grease.
next time you buy plugs, buy yourself set of HALOs. they are not much more expensive than iridiums, and DO give better mpg. and you don't have to gap them. and yes, THEY DO COME CUSTOM TAILORED FOR GM.
