It’s possible you damaged some wiring without noticing it, but overall, the steering system will not affect transmission operation.

It’s also possible the code being set is just coincidental. Start with the basics - check fluid level and condition, inspect the wiring harness for obvious damage, and check the connector at the transmission to see if it’s loose.
