engines can run fine at different temps, however when the ecm's are programmed, everything is set off of 195 degree operating temp. ok, there are some cars with exceptions to this, but the vortecs are not one of them. yes, you can drive just fine, however your ecm will remain in an open loop fuel delivery. this is basically like the choke on carb not opening, or not opening all the way. sure, engine still runs, but sucks more gas than necessary. once an ecm senses operating temp, it goes closed loop, basically choke opens. my guess is that someone put a 180 thermostat in. easy to change out, if ya wanted.

good info. right now my truck exhaust smells a little rich. you think if i put a higher radiator cap on, then it will solve the problem?

Sorry. I meant To say thermostat. Lol. So just a lil side note... A little excessive ether and a super charger... Will blow your whole plentum in half. Long story short. Were getting a new plentum for the suburban tomorrow morning

If you feel you need higher coolent temp, put a 195 in it. Only reason you might need something other than 180 is for winter. If your in a "non" real cold location I'd leave it alone.
