i want to start tightening my suspension for better control with corners and the such. but where should i start? my truck is a 01 silverado 1500 regular cab with a short bed.

a good place to start is replacing the rubber sway bar bushings and end links with polyurethane ones

 

Lower it. Better handling and looks!

 

I agree with using polyurathane sway bar bushings Performance suspension technologies PST.com if not satisfied try bilstein shocks and max psi in tires

i like it at the height its at with the leveling kit i saw a silver silverado with chrome 22"s i didnt like the way it looked but a lower center of gravity is a good start but i need to find other ways

 

Just purchased a 2002 Silverado 1500. 5.3L 4X2. After I bought it, I noticed
a clunking sound when you take off and when you slow to a stop. I replaced
a bent tie rod and both swaybar link pins and it didn't help. Thinking about
replacing all the ball joints. Maybe the control arm bushings. It's been awhile since I done mechanic work......any ideas?

 

A clunking sound on take-off and stopping would be U-Joints or differential or maybe transmission.

 

it'll be either u-joints or where the driveshaft goes into the back of the tranny, the piece that goes into it has teeth and they have to be greased up or it'll feel like you're gettin hit from behind when you take off

 

Slip joint spline lube. They have to use the factory spec Spline lube, not just grease.
That will get rid of the clunking on takeoff.

 

Check frt bearings. and bushings
