Default 05 with 150k .... Should I buy ?

Found a mint condition 05 four door silverado with 150k highway miles. Went for a test drive and the truck feels like a truck with 30k on it . The guy wants $8950 for it , just wanted some opinions on this deal and what can you expect out of a truck like this if well taken care of ?

My opinion is that you can expect to start putting money into it. If you didn't put those 150k miles on it then you really have no idea what kind of maintenance this truck has had. You could get 300k + out of it properly taken care of, but parts wear out and will need to be replaced. My guess is at 150k it's starting to happen.

I'd say yes, you should buy it, but don't pay top dollar.

Even at 70,000 miles, vehicles depreciate considerably.

Half a dozen hidden small problems will almost certainly

pop up, but the drive train, if well tended, can go

incredible mileage.

Default My experience with 2004 K1500

Hi!

Here's my experience with a 2004 Chevy SWB K1500 5 spd, 97,000 miles. Now, I did buy this thing sight unseen from Pennsylvania, although I had people up there check it out. The body was very clean, can't say the same for the frame - rust, and a lot of time had to be put into it to scrape, sand, chisel, coat etc. The original shocks were shot, they had to go. I do have the service records, the brakes had been replaced at 67,000 miles, but it looks like I want to do all the lines, resurface the rotors, new disc pads, etc.

The driveline - yours will be no exception - everything drained and flushed. In your case this includes the automatic transmission. Engine at 100,000 miles, unless service records say otherwise, new belts, hoses, flush radiator, plugs, power steering unit flush, wires, fuel filter, clean injectors.

The price - $8,900 sound good. Mine was $11,000, maybe a little high, but I'm sure I paid extra for the 4x4 and 5 spd (reason I bought it). Just remember to budget an extra $1,000-$2,000 for maintenance unless you do your own work. Me I'm 50/50 DIY.
