Default 05 Chevy 1500 4x4 steering problem

My wifes Silverado 4x4 won't steer right unless it is moving a little. It steers left with no problem, stopped or moving. Has anyone else had this problem before, and if so, what did you do to fix it?

So far I've replace the power steering pump, and it did not help. It's had the steer coupleing/shaft replaced twice for the steering wheel shake also. The last time it was replace was about 23thousand miles ago. Truck has 74thousand on it now.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!

Harold

Generally, turning the wheels when the vehicle is not in motion tends to put a lot of strain on the steering system anyway...

As long as none of the front end parts a binding it has to be the steering box. The power steering pump pumps all the time and is not effected by which way you steer. But the box has valves in it that open and close depending on which way you turn. I have run into this a few times on GM trucks.

Well we'll be checking the front end parts out on Monday for binding, and IF everything thing is okay, we'll be changing out the steering box. I've priced them, and so far anywhere from 350 to 450 for a rebuilt one, and 150 of that is core charge.

Thanks for your time and insights into our problem.

I'll be back with what it was once it is repaired.

Well I took it to a front end place today, and it turned just fine with the motor off on the turntables, so shooting for an steering box tomorrow, wish me luck.

Well we got the gear box installed, and no more problem with our steering. Man what a PITA this was to repair. Well IF this should happen to anyone else you'll know what to try first.
