That'd be because the engineer that designed the oil pan plug layout is in cubical 4, level 3 building A, the engineer that did the exhaust routing is in cubical 23, level 2 building C......

Building C is located in different State by the way....

Yeah,see, here's where I turn into a molten-hot-oil-splashed conspiracy nut.

Because if the designer of the oil pan had faced the drain plug in a shallow well facing down, instead of back and laterally, the oil would not only drain more efficiently, it wouldn't splash anything on the way out.
