I have a 2007 Silverado with 68xxx miles on that has had the oil changed every 3000 miles since it was new. The last several oil changes I am only draining about 4 1/2 quarts out of it. It does not smoke and there are no leaks, is this common?

 

Mine has done that twice. Which engine do you have? I beleive all the v8s nowadays take 6qts for Chevy. I know a few people with trucks like mine, they only put 5 in.

 

Thanks for the reply. I have been putting 6 quarts in and also it seems to be hit and miss on it using oil, not every oil change shows the same results. I wonder if it would help to go to a 10w30 oil from the 5w30 i have been using? The truck is a V8 but is just a driver and I rarely tow with it.

 

Remember, there is close to 1/2 a quart in the filter, depending on it's size.

 

GM say 1qt burn in 2000mile

 

If he runs the same filter I have, it aint no half quart, the oil filter on the wifes 4banger eclipse is the same size as mine.
