Default 08' Silverado Z71 XM Radio probs

Hello, new to the forum and I hope you guys can help out. I just bought a 08' Z71 with steering wheel controls, Onstar etc. I know this question was posted before but with no real answers. How do I know if I have XM installed in this truck. When I hit band, the only option is FM or AM with no XM display. I need to get to the XM station to get my code number. I repeat again, when I hit band all I get is FM or AM. Any sugestions?

I now believe that there is no XM radio installed on my truck. It's very frustrating to find proper information in what you need to install the XM radio. If anybody has done this install in their vehicle, could you give me where and what I need to make this work. The kit from gm costs $600 (Canadian), just for the parts which is ludicrous!

I have done a couple xm installs in the older (03-06) body style. I used the gm kit and everything was plug and play, except for mounting the xm antenna which needed 2 holes drilled in roof. Cost here in US was $300.
A less expensive alternative is xm direct, but I haven't done any of those.

well you could always put in an aftermarket head unit that is xm capable. get the adapter and the adapter for your steering controls. just a suggestion. or buy a stock headunit with xm installed.
