I don't know if it's worth the trouble, I think we all know what a misfire and backfire sound like.

Do you have a vacuum guage and a manual?, Id test you spark advance/EGR/ etc.. If you say you know your brake booster is robbing your vacuum or its going bad, thats a good indication of your problem. You can pinch the vacuum line to the brake booster to bypass it to see it it runs better but you wont have power brakes, just to diagnose it.

have you checked your pick up coil in the distributor? Check your TDC (top dead center) and match that to your #1 plug on the distributor.. This will tell you if you timing chain is lined up or if you have jumped a tooth. These little checks cost u nothing. Also, make shure your egr valve is good.

The screws you are referring to are only in use at idle. At road speed they are by passed. You didnt mention rotor, sometime they can burn thru and short to the shaft. I would also get the wires changed ASAP. Do not run 5 and 7 parralell to each other as they can induce current to each other causing a cross fire. Are the rockers all moving up and down the same distance? Could have wiped a cam lobe off. Set the timming at 4 degrees BTDC with the vac unhooked. Just some thoughts, hope they help.
