Default 1985 4" lift

hey. i have a 1985 silverado. i was wondering how much of a lift i can put in it whitout loosing handling. i just want it to sit a little higher. i heard that blocks arent the best way to go because they fold? or something like that. idk. but i was wondering if anyone knew what i could do to not loose handling but have it sit higher. i dont want to do a body lift. thanks

A 4" inch lift won't hurt handling that much, unless your street racing. Blocks are fine up to 6" in the rear, but not the front. Best bet, is a 4" or 6" suspension lift, if your worried bout handling... Drop it.

blocks tend to increase axle wrap. if you're not putting alot of torque or power to them, you'd be ok. if you don't mind spending a few bucks, springs are better. and 2-4" is pretty good.

Hi Moth423,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Three inch lifts are pretty popular, and should put you where you want to be, viewwise.

You lose power, balance, and gas economy anytime you lift a truck. Your truck will et your tires, brakes, and alignments more often than with a lower suspension. It's great, but like anything which is a quantum improvement over the norm, it comes at a price. Either you can live with that, or you can't. Personally, I DNK if I could ever go back to driving a car again. It's just not the same.

Blocks in the rear and springs for the front. 3" or 4"s won't hurt you that much. Most of a change in handling ould come from larger tires if you go with them, more sidewall = more roll.
