Default 1988 C 1500 dash lights problems

1988 C-1500 has electrical problems and here's what's happening:
With engine off, dimmer switch all the way up, & parking lights on:
Dash lights come on but are a little dim.
Next- when headlights are turned on dash lights get much dimmer
Next- when ignition is turned on dash lights go out

Nest- when engine is started dash lights remain out.
High beam indicator dash light works in reverse (when hi-beams are off–dash light says they’re on)
Every 8 +/- out of 10 times the turn signals will show the opposite signal light on the dash.
Replaced headlight switch and dimmer switch- no change in light problems
Ran a ground from negative side of battery to clean metal under dash... no change with problems
Passenger side has a ground strap from frame to exhaust manifold stud
Cleaned ground connections and retightened- no change
Your help would be much appreciated.

The cluster needs grounding. It is completely separate and isolated from the dash.

Thanks Allan. Unfortunately, you're responding to a beginner here and appreciate your patience. Where would the factory connections for the cluster grounding be, normally?

Pull the clutster, you'll see the big plug.
