1990 1500 exhaust question.
hey guys.
so i recently stumbled upon some cash and i want to put straight pipes on my truck. at the moment i just have the exhaust halfway down the truck, just a single pipe.
so what brand of system do you guys prefer?
price ranges?
should i take my cat off?
help me out here.
thanks
Oceana.

I wouldn't suggest taking your cat off if you have emissions. If you don't have emissions in FL, than do as you will, just be cautioned that up here in MT I have heard of people's cars being held at shops (where they took it to get it worked on) and the shop saying they cannot by law let the vehicle leave without cat's being on it. Just my .02

I would say either flowmaster or magnaflow.
I am in California and no way would anybody out here even consider taking
the CATS outa their car due to our strict laws.
However Florida I don't know about.
I wouldn't recomend it.
Also you say you wanna put straight pipes on your truck.
make sure you have some kinda back pressure or your valves will get all outa
whack real quick.

well right now there is not really any backpressure other then the cat being on there.
in fl there is no emmision checks so i can just take it off.
i see plenty of trucks daily with straight pipes.
so what do i need ... just flowmaster tips?
i have no idea what to ask for at the muffler shop lol.
just tell em straight pipes and ill take the cat off myself. or cut it before i leave for the shop.

go with flowmaster definitely. the cats is what causes the backpressure to the valves so i wouldnt suggest taking them off but do as you will. if you have no emissions standards then probably wouldnt need a muffler either. but its your truck. or run straight pipes from manifold to the muffler and do turndowns right past or before the axle? just an idea.

I will tell you that you can not do a true straight pipe because I have looked into it myself and the gas tank is in the way! I am sure it is possible to do duals some how though it would just take a lot of custom work! I also do agree with everybody else, I would go with the Flowmaster Super 44 and for me no cat. But thats just me and like mentioned before its your truck. Good luck and have fun with it! Let me know how it turns out! Would love to see a vid or 2 when done!!

jk23112 has true duals from the cats back because his truck has 2 cats stock. they did both pipes down the right side of his truck.mufflers were on edge and pretty good for true duals. send him a pm if you want to.
