Default 1992 c1500 4x4 mods

i just picked up a 1992 c1500 silverado ext cab short bed 4x4. 320k 5.7, auto. motor is a rebuild with around 10-20k. was told the tranny was replaced at same time. factory ac. newer ac pump. all stock. i am sort of a prepper. but i prep for my familys safety in any major event. not just one specific type.

i am wanting to change a few things on it. i will list them and my reasons why.

1. carb conversion.
reason: removal of all electrical possible. at least as pertains to its running.
2. weight removal.
reason: better mpg. faster.
3. larger tires. 31/10.5/16
reason: obvious.
4. tranny swap.
reason: again. electronics.
5. remove all possible electrical items as pertains to running of vehicle.

to do these things so far my list is as follows:
1. custom tube framed pre-runner style bed.
2. larger fuel tank.
3. 4" fiberglass front fenders. lighter and to cover the tires.
4. to keep the auto tranny but swap in one with no electronics.(if i have that type please let me know)
5. fiberglass hood. again as with fenders this is for reason #2.
6. custom mechanical gauges. for reason number #5
7. steel wheels. i prefer with bead-lock.

i need to do everything as cheap as possible so any help is greatly appreciated. NEGATIVE COMMENTS ARE NOT!

Welcome to the Forum CKing, and don't worry about being a Prepper. IB12 !

Yep, lots of rigs have been converted just for the reasons you mention. Manual Carb control, Old Style Distributor, Dual Batteries n lots of other stuff.

I'm not sure about the Transmission/Transfer Case issue. I know they make Manual Shifting units for our Burbs, and it may be that you'll have to get a complete assembly to get control of all functions. And, your front Differential should be considered as well.

Just as a side comment...
I (personally) am not too worried about EMP's, but living so close to the coast, and being out of all utilities and high water on a fairly regular basis, "coaxes" me toward my Prepping needs. I never know when a big blow will come into the Gulf, and we'll have to leave. And, then try to get housing...ukkk. I'd rather have a good Camp ready to just settle inland for a while.

I don't know if there is a "kit" to change the tranny n front diff out like that.
That's why I suggested just going to an original manual unit. The tranny, transfer case and front diff are motor/solenoid controlled with the computer. You're really biting off a big (and probably expensive) chore in doing that.

The Carb and Distributor probably won't be much of a problem though.
31's, 33's whatever... as long as you got the room to slip um in the wells. Correctly offset rims and a Lift may be necessary.

Start thinking China as well

Fantastic !
That's one step closer.
What sort of other 4WD controls do you have ?
Pushbutton/leavers on the floor...what ?

And yes, on the manual Transfer Case !
