hi everyone,
I have a 1992 Silverado with a 4.3 and. 5 speed I came out to start my truck after work and my key won't turn. Its acted up a few times but now I am stuck. It will not turn either way I have tried turning my steering wheel adjusting it up and down etc. My truck came with a key lock that you push to remove the key and it not working I can freely pull my key out without using it. What is the problem?? Thanks for the help

Call your auto parts store, see if they sell a replacement
Ignition switch. I've put in two and they're not a big
deal. You'll need to pull your steering wheel off. There's a tool
For that too. I've found it's even easier to install a replacement
Steering column. You can get those at the auto yards or Craigslist
And such. Generally those with the tilt wheel get sloppy and you'd be having
Key issues by then too. Last column I bought for 75.00 on CL and
it felt like a new one. Unplug your wiring harness at the
Column, there's two bolts on column bracket under
The dash and one in the engine bay and you can drop the
Column out in the trash. Out with the old and, well you know.

In a pinch you can pull your ignition out and operate
The procedure of start and stop with a screwdriver.
There's a release for the ignition inside your column. You
Will see it once you get the steering wheel off and are staring
At the lock body from the inside. The keyed lock is simply turning
A slotted button to start the vehicle. I had a 750 il BMW that I drove for
Several weeks with a screwdriver while the ign was on order.
Had I been pulled over the police would have suspected car theft.
Conversely, had a thief seen it, I'd have lost my car real quick.
