Default 1993 Silverado 1500...Transmission Questions....

All,
I just purchased a 1993 Silverado 1500 with a 350 and 4 speed auto transmission. Price was right and I have been wanting one.

The engine seems to run nice and is supposedly a rebuilt motor. (had receipts from GM etc) Unfortunately the transmission is not behaving as it should. The transmission does not have any gears forward or reverse. No signs of engaging at all no matter RPM. The fluid does not smell burnt nor does it seem horribly discolored. The levels seem correct but have not really let it run more then a few minutes.

As its a balmy 24 degrees Fahrenheit outside and windy right now in Ohio I am not certain of the transmission. Is it a 4L60E or a 4L80E most likely?

In my GMC 3500 I had a similar issue as the previous owner of my silverado described. Basically the transmission ran when he parked it but upon restart the next morning nothing. The issue turned out to be, in my GMC 3500, to be a clogged transmission filter.

Now I know, in the Silverado's case it could be wishful thinking, what else could cause no transmission engagement other then pump failure/clogged filter/bad torque Converter? Anything else...solenoids?

Basically I plan this next week to hop under the truck and open the pan and see if anything falls out. If nothing out of the ordinary appears, I will replace the filter and transmission filter. If no change and above are my only choices, the transmission will be pulled and sent to a local rebuilder but I want to make sure that is the only possibility before spending the $$$.

Thanks,
Chris
