Default 1994 K1500 Brakes

I'm running into an issue with the brakes. I have one of those "high mileage" dinosaurs that just won't die. The odometer is showing 309k and change and she still drives great. I have changed a lot over the years when it comes to brake parts trying to chase the same problem. When you first push the pedal, it sounds like you are bleeding off air. About the first inch or so of pedal travel doens't do much. Is this the norm? I've changed master cylinder, brake booster, calipers, wheel cylinders, hoses, etc. I know the design of these brakes isn't the greatest but I think I should have more pedal than I got. Any suggestions would be helpful.
