1995 K1500 - Occassional Hard Start and Surge
Got a '95 K1500 with 5.7, 275,000 miles but new chevy long block was installed at 209k so it's only got 66k miles on motor. Noticed something funny happening about 9 months ago when I'd go to start it it would fire immediately and start up after hardly even cranking. Usual was a crank or two before starting. Suddenly now it will do the reverse about 1 in 3 times where it has to crank maybe ten times before starting and then seems to smoke a bit due to what appears to be unburned gas in the cylinder. Runs well after starting but will sometimes missfire at idle and even surge very slightly. Seems a little low on power and a little unresponsive when acting like this but it is intermittent and not terrible. Basically acts at time like one does when wires are bad. I replaced the plugs and wires, rotor, and even put in a new fuel pump thinking this was it. I'm thinking now it is with the ignition module and/or coil or the temp sensor which can cause funny things. Any input and how to test?
