Check the fuel pressure! If you have installed a new fuel filter and then the problem happened its cause the filter was so clogged that when the flow gets better it takes the pump out. seen it a million times

 

Did you replace the fuel? Old fuel doesn't burn well. If you light an ounce of old fuel in a cap and an ounce of new fuel you will see a huge difference in flames.

Had same problem with another Chevy truck and it turned out to be fuel pump.
Once I got it started there was enough vacume to pull in fuel. (at idle)

 

I have a 1998 Chevy truck that has been setting for a while .Starter was bad so i had it rebuilt, when i installed it and connected to battery it started cranking without the key in the truck!So i removed the starter and did a field test on it and worked perfectly!I also checked the wiring at the starter to make sure they weren't grounded out. Any Ideas?
