Default 1998 K1500 AC Won't Work

The ac clutch cuts on and off... I put freon in it to the point that the supplied pressure gauge with a bottle of freon says mechanical problems are possible. I discharged all of the freon, and started over. (expensive) I got the same problem, except I only put in about 6 oz and the gauge read high. It is supposed to hold 2 lbs. Any suggestions... Should I put the remaining freon in, or is there a bigger problem?

you may have gotten noncondensables in your system by doing that.

does the heater work or does it just blow air?
maybe you have a bad relay.
maybe your compressor is shorted out.
The compressor clutch may be fried.
You will need to take a multimeter to it to find out.

Have you checked the pressure switch on the accumulator(dryer)or the connector for that matter ,also the connector at the clutch ?

Did you pull a vacuum on the system before you refilled it?

Ok, I did not fully empty it of freon, because I didn't want it to suck back in regular air, or more so the dust in the air. The heater works very well. After putting that 6 oz of freon in, it seems to blow cold somewhat more than it did, but I still don't like that the gauge reads so high... what would cause that. I tried another gauge as well, same thing.

what gauge?
a refrigerant gauge?
if it reads too high than there is too much refrigerant in the suystem.
if grossly overfilled your compressor could burn up.

yes, with a refrigerant gauge, But I emptied it out till there was almost none, and then after putting only several ounces (probably 5 or 6) it read very high... It is supposed to hold 2 lbs of freon. What could cause it to not hold as much as it is called to?
