2003 Silverado tailgate issue!

2003 Silverado tailgate issue!
The tailgate on my 2003 Silverado will not close. I shut it manually by pushing each rod out to lock the tail gate. How do I fix this? A guy at Auto Zone told me there is some kind of spring missing that forces the rods out to lock the tailgate...but I don't know what it looks like or where to get one, mainly because I don't know what it's called. It will open just fine tho.
