I have a 2007 Z71 with a power tailgate and never had any issues until now. It opens ok but when it starts to close it stops about a third of the way down and goes back up. As it stops a third of the way down and goes back up I'm hearing a noise in the tailgate lock mechanism (strange), never noticed that before. I can't get it to close except for manual, any ideas before I take to dealer?

You might want to take it to dealer while it still opens as another poster had a similar problem except his quit opening. He said dealer was going to have to practically tear the hatch apart to fix it. His is a 2009.

 

Hi BigAl.. I have the same noise on the latch as you do (loud humming and stops during cycles). Its been diagnosed as the Latch Module (GM is having majour issues with this part). Along with that latch module; my Actuator power lift gate motor is being changed (keeps popping out of socket, loud clunk during opening cycle).

A re-learn via Tech II scanner is going to be completed as per GM specifications. Get your beast to the Dealer BigAl and let the pro's get er' done!
