Default 2004 UBJ & Control Arm

2004 Silverado 3500 4x4

Replacing ball joints-I couldn't get the upper control arm to break loose from the knuckle. I tried a pickle fork and a bf hammer the only thing I did is destroy the boot on the ball joint. I thought the hard part would be getting the ball joint out but I can't get to that point....am I missing something? (yes, I took the nut off underneath) Any suggestions?

Pickle forks tends to destroy stuff. The correct J tools are the J-43631 ball joint separator and J-45851 protector adapter. If you can't borrow something equivalent, Harbor Freight should have knockoffs.
